Air Jordan Returns to the NBA, at Least in Virtual Form

by BRAD JACKSON / / / / Comments

NBA 2K11 is dropping October 5th, and instead of your expected cover star, like Lebron James or Kobe Bryant, gamers will be treated to the master himself, Michael Jordan.

Jason Argent, the 2K Sports VP of marketing said he wanted the best of the NBA on the cover of the best NBA video game they’ve ever produced.

We know we have the best NBA video game ever made here. So we thought to ourselves how can we embody that and there was only one person on that list who we wanted to have and that was Michael Jordan.

The last time Air Jordan appeared in a video game was NBA Street Vol. 2 in 2003. His Airness is excited to return to the court, in a sense anyway. “I have no doubt that NBA 2K11 will be a big hit with gamers and basketball fans alike,” Jordan said. “I’m looking forward to getting back out on the court, virtually.”

I’m ready for some classic Air Jordan, who’s with me?

Los Suns No Le Gusta El Free Speech

by NONPOPULIST / / / / / Comments

viva-los-1070

A couple of Phoenix Suns (NBA, gag me) fans decided to combine Los Suns’ playoff run and their love of arts and crafts to get their free speech on at a recent Suns playoff game. Recent as in the last round when Los Suns were still playing Los Spurs. What? They don’t do Los Spurs too? Why the hell not? They both border on Mexico and Texas is definitely more well-known for Mexican immigration. Regardless, the two Suns fans decided to write “Viva Los 1070″ on some ugly ass orange sweatshirts and let their opinion of supporting the recent immigration measure passed in Arizona be known. You know, the one people make fun of by saying “Show me your papers.” But wait, uh-oh, did they not know Los Suns have come out against 1070 in a move I view as pandering to any potential fans they can get. Are they hurting for fans that bad in Arizona? It turns out the two fans did  know the Suns position and wore the shirts as a protest with one saying, ““If they’re going to shove their politics down my throat, I’m going make a message of my own.” Frankly I’m surprised this story isn’t getting more national attention because at one point during the game the arena security escorted the men away from their floor seats and asked them to remove their protest garb. After a discussion the men were allowed to continue wearing their shirts and returned to their seats amidst cheering, jeering, laughing, and high fives. “High five, bro, I totes dislike immigrants too!” It is believed by one of the men wearing the “Viva Los 1070″ shirts that the request from security came from someone associated with the TNT broadcast crew which a TNT spokesman has of course denied. The truth about where the request came from will probably not be known unless this story gets some more national traction. For now, one of the men who wore the controversial shirt has printed up 500 similar shirts and plans to start a website. And the two guys are getting free tickets and basketballs signed by Los Suns. Hmmm… maybe I should go protest at the nearest Miller High Life brewery. And that’s the end of that. *dusts off hands by clapping them together.*

This is What We Call Poor Timing

by MICHAEL TUNISON / / / Comments

shaqTiger Woods and his [as of posting time] 700 mistresses aren’t the only pro athlete marital problems making news (there are at least six at any one time). Shaq’s wife, Shaunie, has filed for separation from him, citing any number of dalliances on the part of the Big Aristotle.

So now’s the perfect time to announce a long-planned reality show about the lives of NBA player wives in which she serves as an executive producer.

VH1 has teamed up with the wives and girlfriends of some of the NBA’s most elite players to give the viewers a behind-the-scenes look at the glamorous life of a professional basketball player’s wife in VH1’s original series, “Basketball Wives.” Production is set to begin on the series in December 2009. The eight-episode 30-minute series is set to premiere on March 15, 2010.

This series is about the insider life of the wives, girlfriends and a few ex-wives of some of the biggest ballers in the game. These ladies live the life. They drive the best cars, live in the biggest mansions, wear designer clothes and jewelry and only travel first class. But living the high life is not all glamour. In order to protect it, they have to deal with the jealousies and dramas of living in — and staying in — the inner circle. They must also keep the groupies at bay while their husbands and boyfriends are traveling on the road for over six months of the year playing ball all-the-while wondering if their spouses are being faithful to them.

The cast is filled with the wives and ex-wives of superstars including Jennifer Williams (wife of Eric Williams), Evelyn Lozada (ex-fiancé of Antoine Walker), Mesha O’Neal (wife of Jermaine O’Neal), Royce Reed, Faith Rain (Udonis Haslem’s girlfriend) and Shaunie O’Neal (wife of Shaquille O’Neal) who will also serve as Executive Producer on the series.

This could be potentially ugly. Though at least they could stick with the Shaq Vs. title.

Concerned With Facebook Privacy?

There are tools to help if you are concerned with Facebook privacy. And if you were unsure you should be concerned with your privacy on Facebook. The CNN SciTechBlog highlights four of them. Why can’t Google and Facebook chill out a little and not be so concerned with knowing every detail about us in order to monetize every penny they can. Clam down, guys,  we just want to use the damn internet. If we want to buy something we’ll let you know.

Zombie Awareness Month?

So we can just make up awareness months now? The Zombie Research Society has dubbed May ‘Zombie Awareness Month,’ and it doesn’t appear to be a joke, maybe. You are encouraged to wear a gray ribbon to signify your awareness of zombies for the month of May. This can not be real. On their website they offer a lifetime membership in the society for $25. This is ingeniously crazy. I totally just liked the ZRS on FB.

The NFL Throwing TV Elbows

Is the NFL a television juggernaut or what? NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said ratings are up 30% from last year’s draft. Thursday night was the first ever NFL draft in prime time, and the major networks will have to take notice when the official ratings come out. Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com reports the league is declaring last night’s first round a success and speculates the draft in prime time will most likely become a yearly tradition. Next year I am predicting there will be a lot of reruns aired against the draft if the networks are smart… which they aren’t.
