MLB not Amused by Funny or Die, Azaria’s Antics

by NONPOPULIST / COMEDY / FUNNY OR DIE / FUNNY VIDEOS

Funny or Die released this video starring Hank Azaria as fictional baseball broadcaster Jim Brockmire yesterday morning on their website. The video features Azaria doing a funny character with a funny old-timey sportscaster voice with appearances by popular sports personalities Dan Patrick, Rich Eisen, and Joe Buck talking about what a hero Brockmire was to them. I caught the video early in the day yesterday, and was about to post it over here at EDGE a little bit later, but something was funny with the Funny or Die website. I couldn’t figure it out. I refreshed and then went back to the homepage. What, it’s no longer featured on the homepage. What the…? So I was left with the mystery. No one else was mentioning it on Twitter or anywhere else I could find. I go on about my business until this morning when I wake up and listen to the Dan Patrick Show (that is where I originally heard about the video also.) Apparently Major League Baseball had a problem with the folks at Funny or Die not only using MLB game footage but also found some of the content in the video objectionable as it relates to Major League Baseball’s image. Who are you calling a stuffed shirt league? My reaction to the video is it’s funny, but not ‘I might pee my pants’ funny. That is until MLB made FOD take the video down. Now there’s danger attached to it. And I happened to have found the video at Sports Crackle Pop so I decided to post it here. What can I say ladies? I’m a bad boy, but you might be able to change me. The question is are you a bad girl? The kind of bad that can post a video without expressed written or implied oral consent?

  • Update: MLB has allowed the video back on Funny or Die. And Will Ferrell does a minor league baseball promo/ stunt the same day. Coincidence? I have no idea. Or do I???

Concerned With Facebook Privacy?

There are tools to help if you are concerned with Facebook privacy. And if you were unsure you should be concerned with your privacy on Facebook. The CNN SciTechBlog highlights four of them. Why can’t Google and Facebook chill out a little and not be so concerned with knowing every detail about us in order to monetize every penny they can. Clam down, guys,  we just want to use the damn internet. If we want to buy something we’ll let you know.

Zombie Awareness Month?

So we can just make up awareness months now? The Zombie Research Society has dubbed May ‘Zombie Awareness Month,’ and it doesn’t appear to be a joke, maybe. You are encouraged to wear a gray ribbon to signify your awareness of zombies for the month of May. This can not be real. On their website they offer a lifetime membership in the society for $25. This is ingeniously crazy. I totally just liked the ZRS on FB.

The NFL Throwing TV Elbows

Is the NFL a television juggernaut or what? NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said ratings are up 30% from last year’s draft. Thursday night was the first ever NFL draft in prime time, and the major networks will have to take notice when the official ratings come out. Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com reports the league is declaring last night’s first round a success and speculates the draft in prime time will most likely become a yearly tradition. Next year I am predicting there will be a lot of reruns aired against the draft if the networks are smart… which they aren’t.
